Lighthouse Memories: Cape D’Aguilar
For decades, Hong Kong lighthouses stood as guardians of navigation, safely guiding ships into Victoria Harbour. But with the rise of modern digital technology, the lighthouse’s role in navigation is diminishing. Its heritage and importance are slowly being forgotten. “Lighthouse Memories: Cape D’Aguilar” is a story of Hong Kong’s first lighthouse — a tale of its transformation, digital restoration, and cultural influence.

Director’s Statement: Just like the people in the documentary, I really like sea. I think whenever I sit next to the sea I feel the most calm. But before making this documentary, I knew nothing about Lighthouses. I’ve only seen them as beautiful places to take pictures at visiting the coast. But after listening to Professor Davies’ lecture about the history of Hong Kong’s lighthouses, I realized that there is so much more to lighthouses than its instagram worthiness. I think that is the beauty of documentary filmmaking. I get the opportunity to learn about the world through something that seems insignificant on the surface level, but is actually packed with multiple layers of culture significance. So combine that with my love for the ocean, that is why I made this documentary.
